Enter a date range, following the format YYYY (e.g. between 1770 and 1789). All works for which the composition date falls within the criteria will be returned.

For example, if you enter "from 1780 to 1784", a work being assigned "1780-1783" will be returned while another having "1778-1782" will not because 1778 is earlier than 1780. In general, loosening the criteria will solve strange searching problems.

Also, works can sometimes be assigned more than one date (to better reflect uncertainty in musicological research instead of arbitrarily assigning only one date). Thus, the same work can appear in results for two periods relatively far apart in time.

As for the duration, key and mode criteria, some works have not been assigned a composition date yet and will not appear in queries that use the date criterion.
